joanroche.com is the online portfolio of Joan Roche, a London based Artist currently exhibiting at Gallery Forty Seven from the 8th to the 11th of May.

On her latest collection:

"The concern of this work is to engage in a formal enquiry of the subject, as well as respond to and record the psychological state of the subject. I have returned to figurative work after some time and this exhibition marks the journey and on going development of my work as I re-engage with the figure. The process of mark making and an engagement with paint media and surface has always been central to my work. Working with the figure has posed new problems and this work begins to bridge the gap between previous landscape paintings and also grapple with the implications of narrative that working with the figure has brought to me. I have started to produce work that is beginning to unpick the complex relationships that the artist, the subject and the viewer of figurative work have, and to explore the possibilities of narrative imagery. The exhibition marks the development of this engagement so far, from a series of measured formal nude studies, to paintings that allow me to expand on my observations and visual language."
